Celebrating A Century -
1912 - 2012
Throughout the new year
a number of events are being planned to mark the very special milestone
in the life of Oakland Church. We will be reminded of the legacy
left to us by those who have worshipped at this site on the Bedford
Street hill, and we remember them with thanksgiving in our hearts as we
look forward to what God has planned for our future. Several big
celebrations have already been scheduled for 2012. When you read
this the kick-off on January 15th will already be part of history.
In March the weekend of the 23rd - 25th has been set aside for a
Holy Spirit Conference. As the year progresses you will hear and
read much more about this and other events. Anyone who has an idea
to contribute for consideration to help celebrate is invited to contact
a member of the Centennial Planning Committee: Pastor Randy Bain,
Jane Naylor, Myrna Gilbert, Celeste Sprankle, Larry Hoover, Janet
Griffith or Barbara Mangus. For additional information, please contact the
church office at 269-3678 or email

Old Time Religion Sunday!
Get out your hats
ladies. Men, grow those handlebar mustaches and get out your old
duds. Our theme Sunday for the Sunday after Easter (April 15th) is
"Give me that Ole Time Religion." I'm not even sure what they wore
in the 19-teens, but let's give it a try. I'm picturing myself in
a black undertaker's jacket with an ascot tie. Any suggestions
will be appreciated. With the 100th Anniversary year, the idea of
"Ole Time Religion" was a no-brainer. Plan now to attend and
invite any friends that enjoy fun-filled worship! For additional
information, please contact the church office at 269-3678 or email
oumc@atlanticbb.net. |

Praying Ladies
Our Praying Moms group is making some changes! First, we're changing the name to Praying Ladies and we're inviting
ALL ladies - young, old, married and single to participate in the
8-week study, "Radical" by David Platt. This class invites you to
encounter what Jesus actually said about being his disciple, and
then obey what you've heard. David Platt challenges you to
consider with an open heart how we have manipulated a God-centered
gospel to fit our human-centered preferences. With passionate
storytelling and convicting biblical analysis, Platt calls into
question a host of comfortable notions that are common among
Christ's followers today. Then, he proposes a radical
response: live the gospel in ways that are true, filled with
promise, and ultimately world changing. This small group will meet
on Thursday mornings from 9:15 - 11:15 am starting September 9th.
Babysitting will be available. Please call Kristen Mack at
266-7024 to sign up for "Radical" or for more information. |
