New Beginnings (12 Week Journey for New Believers)
Pastor Randy will begin a new teaching series for Seekers, New Believers, or anyone new to Oakland and the United Methodist Church.  In New Beginnings you will learn some basic doctrines of the Christian Faith, become familiar with the Bible, and be able to ask and discuss absolutely any question.  New Beginnings will begin on Wednesday, November 3rd at 6:30 PM.  Pastor Randy plans to teach this series back-to-back for the next three quarters.  Persons can begin at any point and continue either until they cycle through the twelve lessons or repeat the series as needed.  New Beginnings is designed to serve three purposes:  1) to give new believers a safe place to land and become established in their walk with God. 2) To allow seekers to question and consider Christianity in an open forum. 3) To enable newcomers to Oakland and the United Methodist Church to learn about our believes and to get to know the Pastor and others better.  If you are a new Christian or if you are not quite there and still have questions or if you are new to Oakland, come and attend New Beginnings.  It is designed just for you.  I hope to see you, Wednesday, November 3rd at 6:30 pm.  Join us for a light supper at 6:00 pm. Easter Cantata - "Forsaken"
On Palm Sunday, April 1 at both 8:30 and 11:00 am services, the Chancel Choir of Oakland UMC will present their Easter Cantata, "Forsaken, Remembering the Last Days of Christ."  The music is by Mark Hayes, and the Lyrics are by John Parker.  The Chancel Choir, accompanied by an orchestra will offer this production at both services.  Many of us know that on Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem amid shouts of "Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!"  Nearly everyone remembers that only four days later He was praying with His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane when Judas betrayed Him with a kiss.  Forsaken is comprised of eight choral pieces, each corresponding to the eight days in the life of Christ from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday.  It is a reflection on and commemoration of the last days of God's Messiah.  This work for choir and orchestra was written to help worshippers fully understand the events of Christ's last week on Earth and to help us all worship the risen Savior. For additional information see Matt Price, Director of Worship or contact the church office at 269-3678 or email oumc@atlanticbb.net.
