New Beginnings (12 Week Journey for New Believers)
Pastor Randy will begin a new teaching series for Seekers, New
Believers, or anyone new to Oakland and the United Methodist Church.
In New Beginnings you will learn some basic doctrines of the Christian
Faith, become familiar with the Bible, and be able to ask and discuss
absolutely any question. New Beginnings will begin on Wednesday,
November 3rd at 6:30 PM. Pastor Randy plans to teach this series
back-to-back for the next three quarters. Persons can begin at any
point and continue either until they cycle through the twelve lessons or
repeat the series as needed. New Beginnings is designed to serve
three purposes: 1) to give new believers a safe place to land and
become established in their walk with God. 2) To allow seekers to
question and consider Christianity in an open forum. 3) To enable
newcomers to Oakland and the United Methodist Church to learn about our
believes and to get to know the Pastor and others better. If you
are a new Christian or if you are not quite there and still have
questions or if you are new to Oakland, come and attend New Beginnings.
It is designed just for you. I hope to see you, Wednesday,
November 3rd at 6:30 pm. Join us for a light supper at 6:00 pm. For additional information, please
contact the church office at 269-3678 or email

Celebrating A Century -
1912 - 2012
Throughout the new year
a number of events are being planned to mark the very special milestone
in the life of Oakland Church. We will be reminded of the legacy
left to us by those who have worshipped at this site on the Bedford

look forward to what God has planned for our future. Several big

this the kick-off on January 15th will already be part of history.
In March the weekend of the 23rd - 25th has been set aside for a
Holy Spirit Conference. As the year progresses you will hear and
read much more about this and other events. Anyone who has an idea
to contribute for consideration to help celebrate is invited to contact
a member of the Centennial Planning Committee: Pastor Randy Bain,
Jane Naylor, Myrna Gilbert, Celeste Sprankle, Larry Hoover, Janet
Griffith or Barbara Mangus. For additional information, please contact the

Easter Cantata - "Forsaken"
On
Palm Sunday, April 1 at both 8:30 and 11:00 am services, the Chancel
Choir of Oakland UMC will present their Easter Cantata, "Forsaken,
Remembering the Last Days of Christ." The music is by Mark Hayes,
and the Lyrics are by John Parker. The Chancel Choir, accompanied
by an orchestra will offer this production at both services. Many
of us know that on Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem amid shouts of
"Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!" Nearly
everyone remembers that only four days later He was praying with His
disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane when Judas betrayed Him with a
kiss. Forsaken is comprised of eight choral pieces, each
corresponding to the eight days in the life of Christ from Palm Sunday
through Easter Sunday. It is a reflection on and commemoration of
the last days of God's Messiah. This work for choir and orchestra
was written to help worshippers fully understand the events of Christ's
last week on Earth and to help us all worship the risen Savior. For additional information see
Matt Price, Director of Worship or contact the church office at 269-3678 or
email oumc@atlanticbb.net. |

Old Time Religion Sunday!
Get out your hats
ladies. Men, grow those handlebar mustaches and get out your old
duds. Our theme Sunday for the Sunday after Easter (April 15th) is
"Give me that Ole Time Religion." I'm not even sure what they wore
in the 19-teens, but let's give it a try. I'm picturing myself in
a black undertaker's jacket with an ascot tie. Any suggestions
will be appreciated. With the 100th Anniversary year, the idea of
"Ole Time Religion" was a no-brainer. Plan now to attend and
invite any friends that enjoy fun-filled worship! For additional
information, please contact the church office at 269-3678 or email
