The Prodigal God
Engaging in God's Word and the world, Pastor Bruce and Kathy Griffith will host a home group on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm beginning on either September 19th or the 26th.  The first study will be a look into the story, people and message of the Parable of the Prodigal Son.  Timothy Keller's book, The Prodigal God, will serve as the basis for discussions.  Sign-up sheets will be available after worship on September 11th.  For more details call or email Pastor Bruce & Kathy at (347) 852-0882 or email to ustadb57@msn.com

New Beginnings (12 Week Journey for New Believers)
Pastor Randy will begin a new teaching series for Seekers, New Believers, or anyone new to Oakland and the United Methodist Church.  In New Beginnings you will learn some basic doctrines of the Christian Faith, become familiar with the Bible, and be able to ask and discuss absolutely any question.  New Beginnings will begin on Wednesday, November 3rd at 6:30 PM.  Pastor Randy plans to teach this series back-to-back for the next three quarters.  Persons can begin at any point and continue either until they cycle through the twelve lessons or repeat the series as needed.  New Beginnings is designed to serve three purposes:  1) to give new believers a safe place to land and become established in their walk with God. 2) To allow seekers to question and consider Christianity in an open forum. 3) To enable newcomers to Oakland and the United Methodist Church to learn about our believes and to get to know the Pastor and others better.  If you are a new Christian or if you are not quite there and still have questions or if you are new to Oakland, come and attend New Beginnings.  It is designed just for you.  I hope to see you, Wednesday, November 3rd at 6:30 pm.  Join us for a light supper at 6:00 pm. For additional information, please contact the church office at  269-3678 or email oumc@atlanticbb.net.

Disciple Bible Study Group
Beginning in September, Pastor Art Moffat will teach DISCIPLE Bible Study Groups on Sunday evening and Tuesday morning. Both groups will begin the week of September 18th. What is Disciple?  Disciple takes you through the bible - all the way - and you do it with others.  We hold each other accountable.  Disciple has nothing to do with how much or how little you know about the Bible.  The focus of Disciple is to make each week's reading apply to your life, particularly the present & future.  Disciple is to challenge you and  to grow you.  Disciple is designed to help the group members grow together.  We eventually find ourselves (as a group) on the same page, in one mind and in one accord (Acts 2:46).  A longer term small group builds a lasting fellowship and a bond with the others in the group.  We learn not only to pray for each other but with each other.  "to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ." - Ephesians 4:12  Disciple is 30 weeks.  It is a commitment.  A discipline experience.  Each group will be limited to ten persons.  Six to ten people have been shown to be the most successful numbers for a small group.  Each teaching session will be two hours long, with a half-time somewhere in the middle.  During the last session of Disciple we will identify each person's spiritual gifts.  The cost for the Disciple book is $34. (Financial aid is available).  "The house churches) dedicated themselves to the Apostles' teaching, to fellowship with each other, to daily breaking bread together, and to prayer with each other." - Acts 2:42  Disciple is the # 1 Bible Study used in America.  Why?  It is Holy Spirit inspired - from its development to its teaching.  Do you want more of God?  Through Disciple men and women are strengthened in their faith, challenged to move to the next level in their spiritual walk, and guided into Christ's service and ministry to fulfill your God-given spiritual gifts.  The Disciple Study groups are designed to develop strong local churches through the in-depth study of Scripture, and can help transform our church into a more biblically nourished congregation.  For additional information, please contact the church office at  269-3678 or email oumc@atlanticbb.net.

Praying Ladies
Our Praying Moms group is making some changes!  First, we're changing the name to Praying Ladies and we're inviting ALL ladies - young, old, married and single to participate in the 8-week study, "Radical" by David Platt. This class invites you to encounter what Jesus actually said about being his disciple, and then obey what you've heard.  David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated a God-centered gospel to fit our human-centered preferences.  With passionate storytelling and convicting biblical analysis, Platt calls into question a host of comfortable notions that are common among Christ's followers today.  Then, he proposes a radical response: live the gospel in ways that are true, filled with promise, and ultimately world changing. This small group will meet on Thursday mornings from 9:15 - 11:15 am starting September 9th.  Babysitting will be available.  Please call Kristen Mack at 266-7024 to sign up for "Radical" or for more information.
