Welcome!!
Hello and welcome from the Children’s Ministry Team at Oakland
United Methodist Church! Oakland offers a wide variety of
on-going activities for children. Even if you worship at another
church on Sundays, please feel free to join us for LIFT,
Vacation Bible School and other activities as your schedule
allows. OUMC strives to nurture the faith of children and to
provide activities and experiences for them that will expand
their faith. The Ministry also works towards helping them to
build relationships and make "church" a fun and exciting
experience.

Bedtime
Story & Movie Hour
Bedtime Story & Movie Hour will be held on
Sunday, February 25th from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Join us and a fun time
for all is in store! Children age 3 through 3rd Grade are invited
to come and enjoy three different crafts, snacks, activities and stories
in story themed rooms! Students in 4th
through 6th Grade will get to hang out in "The Loft" for a movie, snacks, and a fun time! Don't forget to wear your PJ's! Sign-up in the Ferg Street Lobby or by emailing Joy at

Easter Egg Hunt
Join us on Saturday, April
7th for an Easter Egg Hunt! Drop
in and join us for crafts, snacks, prizes and more between 9:00 am and
12:00 noon. All kids 6th grade and younger and their families are
welcome!! Please invite your friends, family and neighbors - the more the merrier!

Here’s what
we've been up to… |

L I F T (Living In
Fellowship Together)
Acts 2:46 says, "Every day
they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke
bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts."
On Wednesday, September 7th, OUMC will kick-off LIFT, our Mid-Week
experience. At LIFT, we'll start with a light dinner at 6 pm
followed by small groups and other opportunities. There is something for
everyone and you are invited to join us for dinner, First Hour, Second
Hour, or the whole evening! LIFT Schedule is as follows: 6 -
6:30 Light Dinner, 6:30 - 7:30 First Hour and 7:30 - 8:30 Second Hour.
During the 1st Hour children can choose between "Kids Choir" and "Arts &
Activities." During the 2nd Hour, they break up into Small Groups
according to age. Nursery will be available after
dinner for younger children of parents attending or leading small groups
or being in choir. If you and your family need a LIFT in the middle of
the week, come Wednesday evenings! For

Sunday School
Sunday School is held from 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. We encourage
children to grow in their Christian walk through Bible truths.

Godly Play
OUMC participates in the Godly Play Program for children ages 4
through 3rd grade. On Sunday mornings at the 8:30 & 11:00 am
services, children leave the Sanctuary following the Children's
Sermon and travel to the Godly Play room, where they are greeted
by a Team Member who helps the children "Get Ready" to enter the
worship center. Godly Play uses a style of storytelling that
allows the children to encounter God & experience God and to
respond to the stories of God. |

Child Care
OUMC offers the Child Care Ministry to provide a safe, happy
environment for infants and toddlers so that parents are able to
worship without worry. Care of the youngest at OUMC is available
in a "nursery" like setting and staffed by Child Care workers
who have Background Check clearances on file. A sign-in system
is also used for the safety of the children. Currently, a pager
system is used that allows the parent to be notified if their
child needs them. |

Little
Praise
Dancers |
Little Praise Dancers
The Little Praise Dancers perform on special occasions under the
direction of Donna Cartwright. They dance in costume and have a
great time moving around to the music chosen. Practice will be
held on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 and is open to children from
3 years to 8th grade. Children will dance in church on the 4th
Sunday of each month starting in October (with some exceptions
for holidays). The dancers will alternate between 1st and
2nd service from month to month. (Children's choir will
sing in the opposite service each month.). If you have
children who love to dance and would enjoy being a part of the
"Little Praise Dancers", please contact Donna

Children's Choir
The Children's Choir sings several times during the year and on
special occasions such as Christmas & Easter. Their music is
well received by the congregation and often draw applause for
their efforts. If you have children who may be interested in
singing in the Children's Choir, please contact Joy at 269-3678

Here’s what
we're looking forward to… |

Bedtime Story Hour
Bedtime Story Hour is held each winter and is a fun time for
children 2 years old through 6th Grade. Children are invited to
come dressed in their pajamas and experience several stories
with corresponding snacks, crafts, and activities. |
|
|
Easter Egg Hunt
The Children's Easter Egg Hunt is a fun time at OUMC where
children and their friends can join the hunt to find hidden
Easter Eggs as well as a variety of crafts and activities. The
event is held on the Saturday before Easter. |
|

Kid's Camp
During the summer, the Kids Camp Ministry Team sponsor a trip to
Jumonville. The week-long experience for students in 2nd-6th
grade includes hiking, swimming, games and crafts, and teaching
sessions. The purpose of the Kids Camp week is to help nurture
children in their faith and lead them towards a deeper
relationship with Christ as well as build stronger relationships
with adults and children from the church body. |

BLOCK
PARTY
The Annual Block Party is a fun time for children of all ages
and a great community outreach event. In addition to
entertainment and ministry especially geared towards children,
there are bounce tents, pony rides and more. |

Vacation Bible School
Each summer, OUMC hosts a Vacation Bible School, a week-long
experience, for Children ages 4 through 6th grade. A central
theme is chosen that allows children to experience Jesus and his
teachings in an active and creative way. VBS is open to all
children (ages 4 through 6th grade) from OUMC and the Johnstown
community. |

Children's Sabbath
Every year in the Fall, the children and youth take charge of
the service. Worship will be lead by the youth band and special
music will be shared by the children's choir. The Little Praise
Dancers will also share in the worship service. Matthew
18:4 says "Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is
the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven." |

Children's Art Gallery
The children at Oakland occasionally have their beautiful art
work on display in what we call the Children's Art Gallery. God
has gifted our children in so many different areas and this is
one way they wanted to share their gifts with the rest of the
church! |

Children's Advent Party
The Annual Children's Advent Party will be held on a Saturday in
December. All children
from 3 years through 6th grade are invited to attend and bring a
friend. Joins us for a fun morning of games, crafts,
snacks and activities as we launch into the Christmas season!!
