"Mission Trip to Chincha, Peru"

15 people from Oakland UM Church traveled to Chincha, Peru to help rebuild the foundation of a church that was destroyed by one of the worst earthquakes in the history of Peru. Those who took the journey include Pastor Randy Bain, Jim Bickford, Taylor Bloom, Dave Charkins, Bethany Demi, Annie Fiffick, Kelly McConnell, Teresa McConnell, Michael Paluch, Bridget Pavlick, Lori Reese, Tyler Reese, Bob Shostek, Barb Zahurak and Calvin Yahn. The trip was made possible by OUMC, members and several fundraisers including a major dinner-theatre production put on by Oakland's Drama Team. Jonathon Edwards, Oakland's Peru Missionary also asked that those travelling on the journey bring items such as notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, coloring books, balloons, small stuffed animals, small toys, baseball hats and frisbees. In addition he asked that the Team bring Reader's Digest Magazines which would be used to help teach English to adults and children. Many items that we take for granted such as sneakers are considered luxuries in Peru.
